Taipei Main Station is where the Taoyuan Airport MRT, the high-speed rail and the TRA meet the Red and Blue metro lines. Hotels of every price band surround it.
Trade-off: The underground malls and passages are confusing and the area is transit-led rather than charming. Night markets need a short ride.

Ximending nightlife and street food on a first visit
Ximen is the pedestrian district with cinemas, street performers and late food, on the Blue and Green lines. Longshan Temple and Taipei Main Station are walkable.
Trade-off: It is loud until late and many hotels are in older buildings. The Red Line needs a change at Taipei Main or Zhongzheng Memorial Hall.

Zhongshan sits one stop north of Taipei Main on the Red Line and also serves the Green Line. The lanes around Chifeng Street are full of cafés, and Dihua Street is walkable.
Trade-off: No Blue Line here, so Ximen and the east district need a change or a walk. Hotels are smaller and sell out earlier.
