What Near Metro does

Most city guides begin with districts or lists. Near Metro begins with the station because line access, transfers, and nearby-place distance shape how practical a hotel or place may be during a real trip.

The public launch is intentionally limited to Taipei, Tokyo, and Singapore while we validate data quality, usefulness, and search behaviour. Pages without enough useful nearby information are kept out of search indexes.

Data sources and attribution

Metro geometry, station coordinates, and many place records originate from OpenStreetMap contributors. Map presentation uses OpenFreeMap and OpenMapTiles. Selected attraction descriptions and images may be enriched from Wikidata or Wikipedia and retain visible source links where available.

Hotel records may be matched to LiteAPI data when configured. A provider record does not constitute an endorsement, and booking links remain disabled for the initial launch.

How proximity is calculated

Near Metro keeps two different proximity measurements. The base station-to-place distance is a straight-line estimate between stored WGS 84 coordinates, calculated with the Haversine formula and rounded to metres; it remains the cheap comparison and fallback measurement. For hotels with a persisted routed result, Near Metro instead displays OpenStreetMap-based pedestrian distance and duration from the station area, or from a trusted mapped station exit when available. Routed estimates can still differ from reality because entrances, indoor links, gradients, crossings, construction, opening restrictions, and temporary closures change.

Selection and freshness

Station guides become indexable only when the station remains in the published city bundle and has useful hotel or nearby-place coverage. Attraction indexes require a minimum amount of image-backed content. Sitemap modification dates come from the underlying city files and database records rather than from the time the sitemap is requested.

Each station guide displays the latest relevant update time available to the application. Important transport, accessibility, opening-hour, availability, and price information should still be verified with the operator or provider.

Corrections and independence

Near Metro is independent and is not a transit operator or booking provider. Inclusion is based on usefulness and available data, not payment. If compensated links are introduced later, they will be disclosed and will not determine editorial inclusion.
